Schiesser Lexicon - Refining - Mercerizing


A process for cotton named after its inventor Johann Mercer. Through the treatment with caustic sode, the cotton fibers will be smoother (again) and the natural surface sheen is visibly strengthed. The material becomes more deformation resistant.
