Lyocell is an industrially produced regenerated fibre made of cellulose, obtained by the direct solvent process. Lyocell is the generic fibre name; its best-known producer is Lenzing AG under the brand name Tencel.
What sets lyocell apart from classic viscose
The production process requires fewer process stages, and the solvent (NMMO) is recovered almost completely. At the same time, the fibre achieves properties not possible with the classic viscose process: a very pleasant handle, a silky sheen and an elegant drape – along with clearly better textile-physical values such as very high dry strength, high wet strength and low shrinkage.
Why this matters for your underwear
Lyocell is pleasant on the skin and breathable, absorbs moisture quickly and releases it just as fast – for a cool, fresh wearing feeling. Lyocell by Lenzing does not tend to unwanted pilling and is easy to care for: washing at 60 °C, tumble-drying and ironing are no problem. Compliance with the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 is guaranteed.
