The plain weave (linen, cloth or taffeta binding) is the simplest way of interlacing threads in weaving. The fabric is hard-wearing and permeable to air.

Depending on the yarn used, the same weave goes by different names: woven from filament yarn it is called taffeta binding, in wool fabrics cloth binding. Batiste, in turn, is a fine, light, transparent fabric in this weave – usually made of cotton.
Panama: a weave with several warp and weft threads binding alike. Poplin: a rib-like fabric with a dense warp, moderate weft density and a soft finish. Rep: clearly visible ribs, usually running crosswise, made of threads of different thicknesses.
