Polyacrylic

Polyacrylic is a synthetic fibre based on petroleum with a wool-like, fluffy character. The fibre is soft and elastic, hardly creases, dyes easily and dries very quickly.

Production and properties

Polyacrylic is spun from petroleum-based raw materials into a voluminous, warming fibre. Unlike wool, polyacrylic does not shrink and can easily be machine-washed at 30 °C; it is often blended with wool to combine the good properties of both materials.

Where you will find polyacrylic

Thanks to its warm, soft handle, polyacrylic is popular for sweaters and warming underwear – often as a wool substitute or in blends with wool.

You can find more fibres in the overview of synthetic man-made fibres.
